Effect of Surface Areas of Heated Air Flow Paths on Heat Storage Efficiency of Mortar Block International conference

We aim to develop a low-cost solid sensible heat storage system for central power tower plants using mortar blocks for heat storage using ferronickel slag as a fine aggregate of mortar. We have examined to increase amount of heat storage of the block by heat transfer enhancement between the block and heated air. Increasing number of circular holes under the condition that heat capacity of the block remains constant, we have examined effect of surface areas of heated air flow paths on amount of heat storage of the block by performing heat storage test. As surface areas of heated air flow paths increase, not only amount of heat storage of the block but also pressure drop due to pipe friction increase. We have found that there is the number of circular holes to maximize amount of heat storage of the block.

In this study, a bending vibration problem of an inhomogeneous rectangular plate in which material properties are given in a form of power of the coordinate in the thickness direction is considered. Dynamic solutions of deflection and thermal stresses in the plate are derived under the mechanical boundary condition of the plate with all edges simply supported. Performing numerical calculation, the effect of inhomogeneity in material properties on amplification factor of thermal stresses in the plate is examined.

This paper presents a suitable technological solution to a problem of spray painting of high solar reflectance paint. We examine a new technology that enables to secure the safety of working at high altitudes, and to reduce the cost of heatshielding painting by introducing water washing/paint spraying robots. We describe an improved design for reducing mass and trial manufacture of the robot that moves and stands still on the rail around the tank and pulls a spray gun trigger. The mass of the robot is reduced from 13 kg to 8.9 kg by the present improved design. Carrying out the theoretical analysis of bending problem of rail for horizontal movement of the robot, we have considered the layout of the wheels and pinions in the horizontal movement of the robot so as to decrease the load of the motor.
