A 5-year-old spayed female domestic short haired cat presented with chronic nasal obstruction. The cat was diagnosed with B-cell nasal lymphoma based on histological examination of biopsy specimens and intracranial invasion was suspected. We initiated treatment with nimustine (ACNU), known to pass the blood–brain barrier, as the primary protocol with prednisolone, with the owner’s consent. The ACNU dose was 20–25 mg/m² (4–5-week intervals, four or six administrations, two courses). The cat remained oligosymptomatic until day 962 after the first dose and no serious adverse events were reported. The cat lived until day 1089. To our knowledge, this is the first report of long-term survival achieved using ACNU as the primary treatment in a cat with nasal lymphoma.

A 23-day-old Japanese Black female calf presented with distension of the lower abdomen. Abdominal ultrasonography revealed a cystic structure with fluid accumulation and moderate echoluminance in the right abdominal cavity. Ultrasonography and contrast-enhanced computed tomography revealed congenital hydronephrosis due to narrowing of the intrarenal ureter, and right kidney resection was performed. Blood urea nitrogen and serum creatinine levels, which were within reference values preoperatively, peaked on the third postoperative day and gradually decreased afterward until reaching preoperative values on the tenth day. In bovine hydronephrosis, nephrectomy may provide a favorable prognosis if one kidney is intact. Moreover, this case suggests that blood tests immediately after surgery are not suitable for evaluating residual kidneys.

An eight-month-old, female Japanese Black calf weighing 213 kg showed bilateral hindlimb edema of unknown origin. The animal had no abnormalities in general condition and gait. As a result of a blood check, the presence of underlying diseases developing edema were not suspected. Clinical examinations and diagnostic treatments in this case eliminated systemic diseases including cardiac and nutritional disorders or regional inflammation and peripheral vascular disease as causes for the bilateral edema, but it was speculated to be due to a partial lymph flow disturbance. Lymphangiography was performed using an iodine based oily contrast medium, and the contrast medium was injected subcutaneously in the carpus and tarsus regions in both forelimbs and both hindlimbs. Sequential radiographs showed an inflow of the contrast medium into the lymphatics of both forelimbs, but not of both hindlimbs. Based on these findings, this calf was clinically diagnosed with lymphedema, and pathological examination confirmed the disease.

Recently, detection of canine primary adrenal mass has increased owing to progress in diagnostic imaging. Adrenocortical adenoma, adrenocortical carcinoma, and pheochromocytoma are representative primary adrenal masses; the latter two may invade intravascularly and metastasize to other organs. We encountered a dog exhibiting progressive hindlimb paraplegia. Multimodal imaging including computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed that the cause of the paraplegia was infiltration of a left adrenal pheochromocytoma into the spinal canal. In addition, MRI detected small liver metastatic lesions that were not detected by CT.
