This paper describes a proposed method for the assessment of the durability of RC structures, which are required to have long-term durability, by considering not only oxidative corrosion, which is generally applied to the corrosion of rebar in concrete structures, but also the transition to a reducing atmosphere, where the oxygen concentration becomes very low owing to the consumption of oxygen during oxidative corrosion. It is suggested that a lower corrosion rate may be expected in a low oxygen corrosion environment through the high densification of concrete combined with the use of prestressed concrete that can reduce the assumed in-service crack width and possibly achieve zero crack width, or chemical prestressed concrete with a higher level of crack control.

With technical advances, various locomotion mechanisms for use on bumpy roads have been introduced. Among these locomotion mechanisms, crawler-based platforms are widely employed. However, due to their tilt on uneven terrain, accidents such as overturning and falling loads have been reported. To overcome these situations, this paper proposes a constant balance scheme for crawler-based transportation systems (hereinafter called crawler robots for simplicity). Practically, a variable-shape crawler robot with four foldable legs is designed to maintain a constant upper-frame posture regardless of ground conditions. The four legs by coordinating expand and contract, thereby enabling the robot to adapt to local surface conditions and configure its desired posture while traveling. The coordination-based crawler mechanism is realized by employing rack-and-pinion units for raising and lowering. The effectiveness and performance of the developed crawler robot are demonstrated by verifying its movement under continuous and discontinuous surface conditions with the use of a balanced posture from a tilted state. Specifically, we pose an innovative challenge of information transformation to maintain balance effectively. In detail, three-dimensional state variations (e.g., gradients and inclinations) of the crawler robot depending on ground conditions are transformed into one-dimensional displacements. Unlike previous works, this study presents the novel idea of coordinating the motions of individual legs to configure a variable-shape crawler robot. In other words, the crawler shape is deformed while it maintains the desired balance.

Expansive concrete has been utilized to suppress cracks of concrete for a longer time particularly for the symmetrical cross-sectional dimensions structures by using chemical prestress technology of that is introduced by the expansive additive. In order to widen the application of this technology to various concrete structures, estimating method of chemical prestress in the unsymmetrical cross-sectional dimensions concrete was proposed and was evaluated on a full-scale road bridge specimen using expansive concrete slab and wall fences. As a result, it was clarified that the chemical prestress introduced unsymmetrical crosssectional dimensions can be evaluated by the proposed estimation method. In addition, it was observed that the shrinkage cracks on the wall fences were suppressed by the chemical prestress.

Precise practical estimation of the expansive strain distribution in cross-sectional dimension is important for effective use of CPC(Chemically pre-stressed concrete) members, but previous studies have reported only the expansive strain distribution of CPC members having symmetrical arrangement of reinforcing bars and cross-sectional dimensions. In this study, we report the estimation method and the experimental results of the expansive strain distribution of CPC members with non-symmetrical rebar arrangement in T-shaped and L-shaped cross sections. The value of the expansive strain estimated by the proposed cross-sectional analysis from the expansive strain of the JIS specimen is goodly corresponded with the experimental value using the Work-done concept.
