© 2019, Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. Recently, acoustic analysis techniques are used in the design of acoustic environments both inside and outside of rooms containing a sound source. However, when the analysis area is expanded or the frequency is increased, unknowns of a solving liner equation increase, and large-scale analyses becomes necessary. Therefore, in this study, a large-scale acoustic analysis method has been developed based on a parallel finite element method. In the proposed large-scale analysis method, an iterative method is applied to the interface problem as the iterative domain decomposition method, which is known to be an effective parallelization method. To improve the convergence of the iterative method, balancing domain decomposition has been applied as a preconditioner step, and its effectiveness in large-scale acoustic analysis is demonstrated. The acoustic analysis code is developed in this study that is shown to be capable of the large-scale analysis of finite element models on the order of tens of millions of elements with high accuracy.

The purpose of this study is to improve the convergence of the iterative domain decomposition method for the Interface Problem in time-harmonic eddy-current analysis. The solver applied is the A - ϕ method, which consists of the magnetic vector potential A and an unknown function of the electric scalar potential ϕ. However, it is known that the convergence of the iterative domain decomposition method deteriorates for the interface problem in analyses with large-scale numerical models. In addition, the equation obtained by the A - ϕ method is a singular linear equations. In general, iterative methods are applied to solve this equation, however it is difficult to achieve high-precision because of the truncation error. In this research, to solve this problem, a direct method using a generalized inverse matrix based on a singular value decomposition method is introduced to solve the subdomain problems. Although this increases the computational cost, high-precision arithmetic becomes possible. Here, we investigate the improvement in the convergence of the interface problem by comparing our proposed method with previous method, when applied to the standard eddy-current problem.

© 2019 ASTES Publishers. All rights reserved. Recently, augmented reality (AR) technology has been applied to the interaction technology between human and virtual objects. In AR interaction technology, it is necessary for users to be able to manipulate virtual objects intuitively. Thus, we focus on manipulating virtual objects directly with the user’s bare hands in this study. On the other hand, in AR technology, since the 3-dimensional (3D) model is superimposed on the image of the real space afterwards, it is always displayed on the front side than the user’s hand (occlusion problem). Thus, it becomes an unnatural scene in some cases. In this study, this system detects hand area of the user by extracting depth information, color information and using canny edge detection in the user’s hand. Thus, this system performs hidden surface removal along the area of the user’s hand by considering the object-context relations between the user’s hand and the virtual object. In the evaluation experiment, it is confirmed that the hidden surface removal in this study make it possible to distinguish between finger boundaries and to clarify and process finger contours. This work is an extension of the paper entitled “Hidden Surface Processing for Interaction of Hand and Virtual Objects Using Leap Motion Controller” published in 2018 International Conference on Information and Communication Technology Robotics (ICT-ROBOT).

In recent years, numerical methods such as the finite element method are developed for sound field prediction of architectural spaces. However, large-scale analysis is often necessary because of the larger domains and the higher frequencies that we deal with in engineering applications. Therefore, we often only consider larger domains at low frequencies or high frequencies in smaller domains. In this paper, the iterative domain decomposition method (IDDM) is applied to solve transient and steady-state acoustic problems. By applying the IDDM, the effectiveness of the large-scale acoustic analysis can be shown. In addition, the results of introducing high-order elements into the analysis are shown.

We have been developing an open-source computer-aided engineering (CAE) software, ADVENTURE, which is a general-purpose parallel finite element analysis system and can simulate a large-scale analysis model with supercomputer. For supercomputer architecture such as an exa-scale system, to obtain high computational efficiency for software that requires large-scale numerical calculation data processing, a programming model that considers the hierarchical structure of hardware, such as a microprocessor and memory, is necessary. From this point of view, ADVENTURE system was developed using the hierarchical domain decomposition method (HDDM) as the basic technology for a large-scale data system. HDDM is technology developed by ourselves mainly for numerical analysis method. In particular, we have developed application-specific system software that can obtain high performance by focusing on simulation of continuum mechanics by finite element method (FEM) and particle method which are highly demanded by academic research and industry. We have developed four research items "DDM I/O (input/output) library," "DDM solver library," "DSL for continuum mechanics," and "continuous mechanics simulator." The software, which is the result of our research, is released as open-source software on the sub-project page in the ADVENTURE project homepage. In this chapter, some of those libraries are described in detail.

© 2018 IEEE. Recently "entertainment computing" (EC) technology becomes a hit term in Japan. There is a well-known "projection mapping" in this EC. Projection mapping is a video technique that synchronizes real and video, and the fascinating world view that the fusion of both produces attracts worldwide attention. "Mapping" of projection mapping has a meaning of pasting a material called video on the surface layer of the projection target. In mapping, by giving images such as light and shadow while utilizing information such as the design and unevenness of the object, realistic multi-dimensional feeling and space feeling can be expressed. In this study, we prototyped an interactive projection mapping that changes according to user's movement by projecting to the user. This time we focused on sports like baseball and soccer, and we projected the ball to the user by projection mapping so that we can experience pitching and lifting.

© 2018 IEEE. In this research, we propose a microwave analysis method based on an iterative domain decomposition method. The simplified Berenger's PML is developed in which these eight corners are given the average value of all PML's layers. As for accuracy verification of the analysis solver, the absorbing performance of the PML is evaluated by using reflection coefficient based on the S parameter. In the accuracy verification, when the maximum side length of tetrahedral emenets is set to 1/20 of the wavelength, the error rate of the numerical solution and the theoretical solution is about 1.70 [%] with the PML of 9 layers. So, we have found that proposed method can calculate with high accuracy.

© 2018 IEEE. Recently augmented reality (AR) technology has attracted a lot of attention and is studied. Furthermore, it is applied to the interaction technology between human and virtual objects. In AR interaction technology, it is necessary for the user to be able to manipulate virtual objects intuitively, so it is required to manipulate the objects by their hand. However, in AR technology, since the 3-dimensional model is superimposed on the image of the real space afterwards, it is always displayed on the front side than the hand (occlusion problem). It is an unnatural scene in some cases. In this study, we utilized Leap Motion Controller to acquire the depth data of the user's hand and fingers. We performed hidden-surface processing considering the depth and the color of the hand and fingers. Thus we enabled appropriate hidden-surface processing in the area of the user's hand and fingers.

On the other hand, virtual reality (VR) is technology that makes artificial environment created by computer be perceived as reality. Modern VR involves three dimensions: presence / interaction / autonomy, and in modern VR we use various interfaces (multimodal interface) such as vision / hearing / taste / olfaction / vestibular sensation / somatosensory sensation. The VR is currently being utilized in various fields such as scientific visualization, medical care, education, training, tourism, and entertainment. In this study, we tried to make a prototype VR system that anyone can easily perform scientific experiments such as physics and chemistry with simple operation. Furthermore, considering the cost burden of the user, we suggested a new system on a platform which can be easily prepared by using a smartphone.

In the ICNIRP guidelines on the protection of human exposure to low frequency electric and magnetic fields, the reference levels are given based on the maximum value of induced electric fields (EF’s) inside a numerical human model that stands erect on ground plane with both hands down by its sides. In this contribution, numerical results on the induced EF’s inside a numerical human model standing with elevated arms in a 50 Hz uniform EF, are illustrated. The effect of the arm elevation angle on the maximum EF is discussed. It is found that, when both arms are raised overhead, the maximum values of the induced EF in the nervous system tissues increase by 20–35% compared with those obtained when both hands are down by its sides, which falls within the reduction factor of 2.4.

In this paper we report the convergence acceleration effect of the extended node patch preconditioner for the iterative full-wave electromagnetic finite element method with more than ten million degrees of freedom. The preconditioner, which is categorized into the multiplicative Schwarz scheme, effectively works with conventional numerical iterative matrix solving methods on a parallel computer. We examined the convergence properties of the preconditioner combined with the COCG, COCR and GMRES algorithms for the analysis domain encompassed by absorbing boundary conditions (ABC) such as perfectly matched layers (PML). In those analyses the properties of the convergence are investigated numerically by sweeping frequency range and the number of PMLs. Memory-efficient nature of the preconditioner is numerically confirmed through the experiments and upper bounds of the required memory size are theoretically proved. Finally it is demonstrated that this extended node patch preconditioner with GMRES algorithm works well with the problems up to one hundred million degrees of freedom.

© 2017 IEEE. The authors investigate a high-accuracy analysis technique for the electromagnetic field in a human body by using the parallel finite-element method. In the high-frequency electromagnetic field analysis with anatomical human models, speed-up of calculation is one of the most important topics. In this paper, we implement the code and evaluate the performance of two kinds of iterative method for the interface problem in the domain decomposition method (DDM) by numerical experiments using large-scale human body models. As the results, the conjugate orthogonal conjugate residual method is very effective as the interface solver in the DDM method for the high-frequency electromagnetic field analysis using the anatomical human model.

This paper deals with three-dimensional non-steady eddy current analysis of a rotating machine as an example of a parallel finite element analysis including moving bodies. In general, high efficiency in parallel computing with a moving body is difficult to achieve. The hierarchical domain decomposition method (HDDM) is known as an efficient parallel finite element method. However, in cases that involve a moving body, the HDDM with static domain decomposition has not attained sufficient parallel efficiency. Moreover, the cost of dynamic domain decomposition is substantial. In this paper, we propose a new domain decomposition technique for the HDDM that enables us to achieve efficient scalability on massively parallel computers. Our method's parallel efficiency has been 93.3% on 96 computer nodes (1,536 cores) of the Oakleaf-FX supercomputer. Furthermore, an induction motor model with a seven million degrees of freedom mesh whose solution by conventional sequential computation requires more than a month has been successfully solved in approximately 1.60 hours using the proposed method.

Along with the diffusion of electromagnetic field analysis using computers, a large-space including complex shapes also becomes an analysis target, and development of a high-accuracy analysis is required for these problems. Therefore, in this study, Berenger's PML, which is currently the most effective absorption boundary condition, is applied to the parallel finite element method based on the domain decomposition method and it is effective as an analysis method of the microwave band. As a basic study, we developed an analysis solver using parallel finite element method based on iterative domain decomposition method. As the accuracy verification of the analysis solver, we analyzed TEAM Workshop Problem 29 which is a benchmark problem, and confirmed that a highly accuracy solution is calculated. Next, a model with PML added to the dipole antenna is used as an analysis object, and the absorbing performance of PML is evaluated by using reflection coefficient based on S parameter. As a result, we confirmed the effectiveness of this method for microwave analysis, so we report here.

© 2017 IEEE. The authors have investigated a high-accuracy analysis for the electromagnetic field of numerical human body models using the finite element method. The numerical human body models generated from computed tomography images are represented as voxel data, and composed of skin layers, blood vessels, bones, internal organs, etc. In this paper, we propose a mesh smoothing technique to reduce the noise caused by reflection and scattering of the electric fields around material boundaries. Therefore, by using a supercomputer, we successfully evaluated the electromagnetic field distribution inside the whole body model with a high accuracy.

As an efficient iterative method to solve a complex symmetric system arising from the formulation of the E method, a DDM based on a MINimal RESidual (MINRES)-like iterative procedure is presented. Numerical experiments are demonstrated to report a faster convergence compared to conventional methods.

This is achieved by the use of the parallel finite element method with iterative domain decomposition. The numerical human body models provided by the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT) in Japan are composed of voxel data with all sides of 2mm and include skin layers, blood vessels, bones, internal organs, etc. distinguished by material properties. By using a High Performance Computing Infrastructure (HPCI), the user can evaluate the electromagnetic filed distribution inside the whole body model.

This paper deals with finite element analysis involving tens of billions of degrees of freedom (DOF) in a high-frequency electromagnetic field. The iterative substructuring method has been considered to be an efficient parallel computing method. To show the possibility of analyzing electromagnetic field problems with complex numbers and tens of billions of DOF, problems with up to 30 billion DOF are analyzed by all nodes of an Oakleaf-FX supercomputer. As a result, the human model has been successfully solved in approximately 10 minutes, and the simple hyperthermia applicator model with 30 billion DOF has been successfully solved in approximately 19 minutes. There is a problem in the output analysis results, and bugs relating to the limits of the 32-bit integer data type have been found and fixed through actual analysis of problems with tens of billions of DOF.

This study purpose is an improvement of convergence properties of an interface problem in the timeharmonic eddy current analysis based on the iterative domain decomposition method. A governing equation based on the A-Phi method for the time-harmonic eddy current analysis is solved taking the magnetic vector potential A and the electric scalar potential Phi as unknown functions. However, when a numerical model become huge, the convergence properties of the interface problem get worse. To overcome this difficulty, we introduce a pseudo-quadruple precision into iterative solvers in the interface problem and the subdomain problem. Convergence properties in the interface problem are improved by applying the pseudo-quadruple precision to both solvers for the interface problem and the subdomain problem.

Currently, in the design and evaluation of acoustic environments such as concert halls and live houses, the importance of acoustic analysis technology is increasing due to the dramatic performance improvement of computers in recent years. Due to the large-scale of the analysis area and expansion of the analysis frequency band, it is necessary to solve the large scale problem more than before in the wave acoustic analysis. Therefore, in this research, we are researching and developing a large-scale sound field analysis method based on the parallel finite element method. The iterative domain decomposition method is employed in the analysis method as parallel technique. In this research, pre-conditioners for the interface problem in the iterative domain decomposition method are considered. As a result, we have found that the balancing domain decomposition method is the most effective acoustical analysis. We also confirmed that the acoustic analysis code is very high accuracy with errors within the allowable range in a numerical analysis.

© 2016 Elsevier Ltd This paper describes iterative methods for the high frequency electromagnetic analysis using the finite element method of Maxwell equations including displacement current. The conjugate orthogonal conjugate gradient method has been widely used to solve a complex symmetric system. However, the conventional method suffers from oscillating convergence histories in large-scale analysis. In this paper, to solve large-scale complex symmetric systems arising from the formulation of the E method, an iterative substructuring method like the minimal residual method is presented, and the performance of the convergence of the method is evaluated by numerical results. As the result, the proposed method shows a stable convergence behavior and a fast convergence rate compared to other iterative methods.

© 1965-2012 IEEE. We have investigated a high-accuracy analysis for the electromagnetic field of numerical human body models using the finite-element method. The numerical human body models generated from computed tomography images are represented as voxel data, and composed of skin layers, blood vessels, bones, internal organs, and so on. In this paper, we propose a mesh smoothing technique to reduce the noise caused by reflection and scattering of the electric fields around material boundaries. Therefore, using a supercomputer, we successfully evaluated the electromagnetic field distribution inside the whole body model with a high accuracy.

This study purpose is to grope a foreseeing technique of deterioration an electrical insulation performance in suspension-type insulator with salty icicle to evaluate a discharge path using large-scale electrostatic field simulation based on a hierarchical domain decomposition method (HDDM). The whole model of the insulator with accretion icicle is made reality in a wintry testing room. First, we explain a method of making insulator models as objects in the simulation. Then, we explain a calculation method of the discharge path from the simulation results. Finally, we show a result that is compared the simulation result with a result of simple breakdown testing. The icicle accretion insulator models that are used in this study are made to simulate a really environment when occur a breakdown accident due to deteriorate the electrical insulation performance by the salty icicle on the surface; moreover, the 3D CAD models are made based on an actual measuring. These degrees of reproduction natural environments are very high as compared with an accretion model on an only virtual space.

Maxwell方程式の変位電流を考慮する有限要素法に基づくfull-wave電磁界解析は,解くべき方程式に不定性が含まれないものの,条件数が悪く共役勾配法などの反復法の収束性が極めて悪い.反復型領域分割法は,数100万~数億要素の大規模問題に対して有効な並列化手法であるが,計算のボトルネックとなる領域間の釣り合い問題の収束性向上のために,部分領域の解の精度を上げることが必要となる.本研究では部分領域の解の精度を上げる手法として部分領域問題の反復解法に擬似4倍精度を導入することによって,領域間の釣り合い問題の反復回数を削減することに成功したので,本論文において報告する.

This paper deals with a large-scale 3D time-harmonic eddy current analysis using the Hierarchical Domain Decomposition Method (HDDM). To improve the convergence of the interface problem of the HDDM and to reduce the computation time, the HDDM is applied to the mixed formulation with the Lagrange multiplier. Because the conventional formulation is singular, it is expected that the characteristic of convergence of the interface problem is made bad. Therefore, in this paper, the mixed formulation of the <i>A</i> method with the Lagrange multiplier that is not singular is considered. As a result, the convergence of the interface problem is much improved, and the time-harmonic eddy current problem with 3.5 billion degrees of freedom is solved in about 9 hours.

This paper describes an evaluation of electromagnetic compatibility based on a full-wave analysis of electromagnetic fields using a parallel finite element method. The environment chosen is the interior of a commuter train. A train containing seats, handrails and 48 human bodies is precisely modeled using a large-scale finite element mesh with Nedelec elements and about 21 million degrees of freedom. To improve a convergence of an iterative method for the interface problem in the iterative domain decomposition method, a unit conversion is proposed by considering the wavelength. The results show that the environmental impact of electromagnetic fields due to cellular phone use in the train can be successfully evaluated.

本研究は, 高周波電磁場問題において, 電場Eを未知関数としたベクトル波動方程式を有限要素法によって定式化した場合に現れる複素対な連立1次方程式に対する反復法について述べるものである. 従来は共役直交共役勾配法が広く用いられてきたが, 大規模自由度モデルにおいて収束性が大幅に悪化することが知られている. そこで, 実対称問題向けで高い収束性が報告されている最小残差法を複素対称問題に適用できるように拡張した新たな反復法を開発し, 性能評価を行う. 数値実験より, 開発手法は従来手法に比べて高速かつ安定した収束性が得られることが分かった. また, 反復型部分構造法による並列アルゴリズムについてもあわせて開発し, 数値実験によってその有効性を示す.

This paper describes an analysis of high frequency electromagnetic fields using the finite element method of Maxwell equations including the displacement current. To solve a large-scale complex symmetric problem on a parallel computer efficiently, a domain decomposition method based on a COCR method is proposed. The COCR method improved convergence behavior in solving an interface system as compared to the COCG method, and then significantly reduced the computation time for the large-scale problems. © 2013 by National Committee for IUTAM.

This paper describes large-scale full wave analyses of electromagnetic fields by the finite-element method with an iterative domain decomposition method (IDDM). A stationary vector wave equation for the high-frequency electromagnetic field analyses is solved taking an electric field as an unknown function. Then, to solve subdomain problems by the direct method, the direct method based on the LDL T decomposition method is introduced in subdomains. If the direct method is applied for solving subdomain problems, the computation time seems to be reduced by the improved accuracy of subdomain problems, and storing matrices that are results of the decomposition on main memory. © 2006 IEEE.

This paper describes a large-scale finite element analysis (FEA) for a high-frequency electromagnetic field of Maxwell equations including the displace- ment current. A stationary Helmholtz equation for the high-frequency electromag- netic field analysis is solved by considering an electric field and an electric scalar potential as unknown functions. To speed up the analysis, the hierarchical domain decomposition method (HDDM) is employed as a parallel solver. In this study, the Parent-Only type (Parallel processor mode: P-mode) of the HDDM is employed. In the P-mode, Parent processors perform the entire FEA. In this mode, all CPUs can be used without idling in an environment of 10-20 CPUs. A whole body cavity res- onator (TEAM Workshop problem 29) and a real-world commuter train model with 12.8 million degrees-of-freedom are solved to verify accuracy and performance of the developed method. Visualization of a huge scale electromagnetic field analysis, with tens of mil lions of degrees of freedom, can be performed efficiently by reusing the hierarchical domain-decomposition data structure, which has been prepared originally for parallel processing of the simulation. Based on this data structure and the associated memory-efficient element search algorithm, a vector arrow plot on an arbitrary cut section can be rendered interactively on a workstation or a PC.

This paper presents large-scale finite element analyses of high frequency electromagnetic fields in commuter trains. The ADVENTURE_Magnetic is one of the main modules of the ADVENTURE system, which is an open source parallel finite element analyses system, and is able to solve eddy current and magnetostatic problems using the hierarchical domain decomposition method (HDDM) with an iterative linear algebraic solver. In this paper, we improve the module so as to solve a high frequency electromagnetic field of 500-1000 M[Hz]. A stationary Helmholtz equation for electromagnetic wave problems is solved taking an electric field as an unknown function. In this study, stable convergence is achieved by adding a stability term. Basic performance of the module is first investigated by solving a simple model. Then a part of a commuter train with seats, handrails and two human bodies is precisely modeled into a large-scale finite element mesh with Nedelec elements of about 5.2 million degrees of freedom (DOFs). The results prove that the improved module can predict precisely the distribution of the electromagnetic field produced by mobile phones inside commuter trains.

In this paper, we propose an approach to solving for an inverse problem. We try to evaluate a unique solution of an inverse problem by means of the weighted inverse matrix. We have applied our weighted inverse matrix method to searching for the electric field source and Demonstrating the three dimensional electric field distributions. As a result, we have succeeded in evaluating the unique electric field source and in visualizing the three dimensional electric vector field distributions from the locally measured electric fields. © 2000 IEEE.
