<b>Purpose:</b> To explore positive changes and related factors in the research activities of faculty members at nursing universities during a period of approximately two years in which nursing research activities stagnated due to COVID-19.<b>Methods:</b> Of the 899 respondents who agreed to a web-based questionnaire survey conducted in March 2022 targeting members of the Japan Academy of Nursing Science, qualitative content analysis was carried out on the open-ended responses of 355 faculty members at nursing universities who responded to open-ended response topics such as “positive changes.”<b>Results:</b> Five categories of positive changes were identified, including “expansion of options in research activities,” and “reassessment of values related to work and research activities.” Additionally, seven categories of related factors were identified such as “maintaining connections with research personnel,” and “changes in working and living environments triggered by COVID-19.”<b>Conclusion:</b> Through their experiences with COVID-19, faculty members at nursing universities recognized that they could improve the efficiency of their research activities and facilitate communication by utilizing online and digital technologies. The results suggested that maintaining connections with research personnel and the continuity of remote work use were associated with positive changes in research activities.
