We monitored the partitioning of gross rainfall (Pg) into throughfall (TF), stemflow (SF) and interception loss (Ic) in a 20 m Χ 10 m plot at the 32 years old non-managed plantation of Japanese cypress (Chamaecyparis obtusa) (2,500 trees ha-1) in Fukuoka, Japan. The results showed that Pg, TF and SF were 1757.4 mm, 1018.8 mm (58.0 %), 303.8 mm (17.3 %), respectively, which resulted in Ic of 434.8 mm (24.7 %). Although Ic ratio was comparable to those reported in previous studies in mature Japanese cypress stands (30 data set), SF ratio was the largest. We assumed that TF was diverted to SF when dropping from canopy due to the unpruned dense dead branches in this stand.

This study investigated changes in transpiration and canopy interception loss according to thinning in a Japanese cedar plantation. Transpiration was measured using the sap-flux method. Canopy interception loss was calculated from precipitation, throughfall, and stemflow amounts. Thinning decreased transpiration by 44% and canopy intercepton loss by 43%. Thinning would decrease evapotranspiration and increase water resources.

There is a few observation results of snow interception loss. We observed snow interception loss in a Cryptomeria japonica forest of central Japan for five winters (2008-2013). Cryptomeria japonica is the most dominant species in Japan. Our site is located at the foot of Mt. Hakusan. Maximum snow depths at an open apace near the forest for the four years were 66.9 - 238.7 cm respectively. The ratios of interception to precipitation for three years were 14.2 - 20.8% respectively. The ratio for 2011-2012 was larger than those for the other two years, which would be affected by the thinning. In this forest, thinning was conducted in November, 2011. The ratios of throughfall and interception loss to precipitation for whole the experimental period were 82.6% and 17.4%, respectively. The ratio of interception loss was slightly higher than that except for winter observed in this forest.

We investigated applicability and accuracy of this method to Japan using Japan Meteorological Agency measurement data, and obtained the following three conclusions.(1)When determining model parameters A and C based observed solar radiation data for each site, model estimation showed nearly no bias with RMSE = 4.40 MJ m-2 s-1.(2) When A and C cannot be determined due to absence of observed solar radiation data, assuming A = 0.76, and C = 2.2 is recommended in Japan.(3)The accuracy based on the method is comparable to that substituting solar radiation data at an observation point ca. 200 km far from the site.

黒部ダム集水域における冬季の流量増加の一考察 International conference

冬季の急激な温度上昇、流量の増加が報告されている富山県黒部川流域の黒部ダム集水域において、融雪流出モデルを構築し、水収支解析を行なった。構築されたモデルは蒸発散モデル、融雪モデル、流出モデルの3つのサブモデルから構成されており、蒸発散モデルにはマッキンク式を、融雪モデルにはDegree-day法を、流出モデルには指数関数型タンクモデルをそれぞれ用いた。指数関数型タンクモデルのパラメータ決定は、積雪の影響が無い3ヶ月間のみで行なった。その結果、降水量の推定には課題を残したものの、年間を通して高い精度で流量を推定することができた。また、冬季の流量の増加は、基底流出量の増加と密接に関わっていることが示唆された。
