本研究は，音楽科教員を志す大学生の演奏指導能力の向上を目指す音楽科教員養成カリキュラム開発のための基礎的な知見を得ることを目的としている。なかでもこれまであまり研究対象として取り上げられて来なかった演奏表現指導力に焦点を当て，優れた演奏表現指導を特徴づける要因を明らかにしようとしているところに本研究の特色がある。

本研究の目的は,採用当初から確かな音楽科指導を実践できる教員を育てるための音楽科教員養成カリキュラム開発にある。特に本研究では音楽科教員の演奏指導力に注目し，次の3点を明らかにすることを課題としている。
１．演奏指導の基礎となる演奏診断力の構造と熟達プロセス。
２．熟練指導者による効果的な演奏指導方法の特徴。
３．教員養成における演奏指導力体養成の具的方法の開発と効果の検証。
