Quoridor is a perfect information game played by two or four players. The purpose of this study is to classify this game as a first move win, a second move win, or a draw. However, the analysis of the standard version of this game, 9x9 board, requires a huge amount of calculation, so in this paper, we show one of a perfect plays of a reduced version with a 5x5 board and one fence each.

In 2015, Hiroki Takeshita started to analyze a reduced-form Othello board with a 4x6 board. Later, he analyzed the 4×8 and 4×10 boards and discovered perfect play. The analysis of 4×12 board Othello was sub-problemed by Takeshita and further sub-problemed by Toya Shotaro in 2019. In this paper, we present the solution to the remaining subproblem of 4 × 12 board Othello and the discovery of perfect play.

Augmented Reality (AR) is a technological advancement which brings to reality the intuitive interaction that a user is attracted to virtual objects. In this paper, we focus on intuitive manipulation of virtual objects with bare hands. Specifically, we propose a method to deform, move, and join virtual objects by intuitive gestures, and aim at intuitive interactions with virtual objects. In order to manipulate virtual objects with bare hands, the position coordinates of the user's fingers are acquired using the Leap Motion Controller. Additionally, we use Bullet Physics as an engine to represent virtual objects. On the other hand, in AR technology, since the three-dimensional (3D) model is superimposed on the image of the real space afterward, it is always displayed on the front end rather than the user's hand (occlusion problem). Thus, the user cannot perform an intuitive manipulation. We solve the occlusion problem by performing appropriate hidden surface removal. From the results of a study using data gathered from a questionnaire survey, we found support for the intuitive interaction between the user and virtual objects.

Retrograde analysis is a representative game analysis method that first lists all legal positions and searches for the best move by analyzing from the final positions to the initial position. This method is effective for analyzing the type of game in which the same position appears many times when the game is analyzed sequentially from the initial position. However, it also has the drawback of requiring a huge amount of memory to enumerate the legal solutions. In this paper, we take up the board game "Quoridor" released by Gigamic.

Michinoeki is considered as one of the most successful social experiments in Japan now. A plethora of literature of Michinoeki's have been published over past decades. The authors reviewed many important and typical literatures and found that the quantitative studies are still sparse. Obviously, it is a critical issue to measure the efficiency of Michinoeki's for its further development and revitalization of the local economy. Thus, the data of Michinoeki are gathered from all Michinoeki in Japan, and the relative efficiency are calculated using DEA model for comparison. Furthermore, the managerial implication of the results is discussed in this paper.

According to the results of a survey on science teaching in 2016, the percentage of students who answered that they like science is lower than other subjects. However, more than 80% of students said that they like experiments and observations. In addition, a 2019 survey on smartphone penetration showed that about 90% of students are familiar with the technology. Also, XR technology has made remarkable progress in recent years. Based on the above, I conducted this research because I thought that creating a simulation application using XR technology with smartphones would change the way we think about science classes. In this paper, we have developed a simulation application for science experiments. The subjects were asked to experience the created application and answer a questionnaire. As a result, the average score was 4 out of 5, which was not a bad result. At the same time, however, we found a problem. The problem was that since this was a simulation application, the user experience was not very good. So we wanted to make it a little easier to use. While improving the problems, I would like to create applications for other fields as well.

Miyazaki Prefecture has a large hula population, probably due to its similarity to Hawaii in mythology and climate. On the other hand, many hula costumes are handmade, and it costs tens of thousands of yen to produce an original design. So we are developing a 3D CAD (computer-aided design) system for hula costumes, based on the idea that we can reduce the number of failures by checking the behavior of the fabric when danced in the designed costume before production.

As a most important index in calculating network interrelationships, there are many definitions and more than 400 different centrality dimensions, such as degree, and betweenness, among many others, have been developed. All centrality indexes are calculated using the number of connection lines, and its position in a given network. In the automotive industry, interrelationships among partner firms are tied within a typical systemic network known as keiretsu. As it is widely known that different partners play different roles in assembly line, it is crucial to measure the centrality of transaction network in the keiretsu.. Thus, the relative importance of each partner in a connection line in a transaction network should be measured based upon the pivotal nature of each part, which has never been proposed. This paper contributes and advances our knowledge to the literature by proposing a new parts-importance weighted centrality model.

Currently, Japan is facing serious headwinds from declining birthrates as well as an aging society, and their economic consequences are widely known. Among many possible strategies to address the aging and shrinking population, the revitalizing the local economy in each prefecture become more prominent with an emphasis on spurring tourism. To shed light on this issue, this manuscript focuses on determining empirically the interrelationship between tourists and tourism destination characteristics using regression modelling. More specifically, the inter-linkages among tourists and tourism destinations are conducted by developing a 4-cell model. The results find support for the importance of the development of public traffic among different tourism destinations as a promising economic revitalization strategy.

Cellular automaton is famous as a kind of the parallel automaton. Cellular automata were investigated not only in the viewpoint of formal language theory, but also in the viewpoint of pattern recognition. Cellular automata can be classified into some types. A systolic pyramid automata is also one parallel model of various cellular automata. A homogeneous systolic pyramid automaton with four-dimensional layers (4-HSPA) is a pyramid stack of four-dimensional arrays of cells in which the bottom four-dimensional layer (level 0) has size an (a=1), the next lowest 4(α-1), and so forth, the (α-1)st fourdimensional layer (level (α-1)) consisting of a single cell, called the root. Each cell means an identical finite-state machine. The input is accepted if and only if the root cell ever enters an accepting state. A 4-HSPA is said to be a real-time 4-HSPA if for every four-dimensional tape of size 4a (a=1), it accepts the fourdimensional tape in time α-1. Moreover, a 1-way fourdimensional cellular automaton (1-4CA) can be considered as a natural extension of the 1-way two-dimensional cellular automaton to four-dimension. The initial configuration is accepted if the last special cell reaches a final state. A 1-4CA is said to be a real-time 1-4CA if when started with fourdimensional array of cells in nonquiescent state, the special cell reaches a final state. In this paper, we proposed a homogeneous systolic automaton with four-dimensional layers (4-HSPA), and investigated some properties of real-time 4-HSPA. Specifically, we first investigated the relationship between the accepting powers of real-time 4-HSPA's and real-time 1-4CA's. We next showed the recognizability of four-dimensional connected tapes by real-time 4-HSPA's.

© 2015 SERSC. This paper deals with the study of four-dimensional automata. Recently, due to the advances in many application areas such as dynamic image processing, computer animation, augmented reality (AR), and so on, it is useful for analyzing computation of four-dimensional information processing (three-dimensional pattern processing with time axis) to explicate the properties of four-dimensional automata. From this point of view, we have investigated many properties of four-dimensional automata and computational complexity. On the other hand, the class of sets accepted by probabilistic machines have been studied extensively. As far as we know, however, there is no results concerned with four-dimensional probabilistic machines. In this paper, we introduce four-dimensional probabilistic finite automata, and investigate some accepting powers of them.

This paper discusses recent fundamental changes in the Japanese alliance networks known as keiretsu, and reports the findings of an empirical investigation on the relationship between these changes and corporate performance. More specially, the performance of Japanese auto manufacturers, such as Toyota, Mazda and Nissan, among others, has significantly improved due to sophisticated production system technologies, highly productive workers, and recurring transaction relationship with other partners in their network organization. One possible determinant of their success could be due to their unique organization forms – the keiretsu– which provides a strong platform to forge their strategic alliance ties with their parts suppliers as well as collaboration into research and development activities with other automobile manufacturers. After the Lehman Brothers bankruptcy in 2008, the strong ties between automobile makers and their supplier partners underwent significant modifications manifested by a “loosening of network ties due to “external influences”. Consequently, this begs the following questions: What is the status quo of automotive keiretsus? Are transactional relationships in keiretsu still associated with improved corporate performance? To answer these questions, this paper reports the results of a study that collected data on transaction to shed light on the relationship between inter-firm transactional relationship and corporate performance. The findings of this empirical investigation reveal that: (1) Keiretsu is a flexible, highly adaptive organizational form; its scale is prone to modifications in response to changes in economic conditions; (2) Transactional relationship is still a significant determinant of increasing profits for keiretsu partners even in the aftermath of the 2008 financial crisis.

Two typical but different types of organization exist: one is traditional organization with a pyramid shaped hierarchical structure, while the other is a network organization with a nonhierarchical structure. In the organization sciences and its allied field including business administration, economics, public administration, sociology, and psychology, the behavioral patterns and values required in a specific organization have been discussed from the standpoint of being successful relative to other competing firms. From the examination of the literature, it is readily discernible that organizational studies on authority and layering have primarily been qualitative in nature. Organization theory suggests that to streamline the management of a large organization begins by dividing it into several sections. We propose a new mathematical model which defines internal and external contributions for the organizations in this paper. Consequently, the evaluation function in the new model is adapted by the sum of the contribution to the external of all members in a given organization. This paper offers two or more evaluation measures that are required for an organization to be specialized.

© 2014 IEEE. This paper is a study of four-dimensional automata. Recently, due to the advances in many application areas such as dynamic image processing, computer animation, augmented reality (AR), and so on, it is useful for analyzing computation of four-dimensional information processing (three-dimensional pattern processing with time axis) to explicate the properties of four-dimensional automata. From this point of view, we have investigated many properties of four-dimensional automata and computational complexity. On the other hand, the class of sets accepted by probabilistic machines have been studied extensively. As far as we know, however, there is no results concerned with four-dimensional probabilistic machines. In this paper, we introduce four-dimensional probabilistic finite automata, and investigate some accepting powers of them.

In 1967, M. Blum and C. Hewitt first proposed two-dimensional automata as a computational model of two-dimensional pattern processing. Since then, many researchers in this field have been investigating the many properties of two- or three-dimensional automata. In 1977, C. R. Dyer and A. Rosenfeld introduced an acceptor on a two-dimensional pattern (or tape) called the pyramid cellular acceptor, and demonstrated that many useful recognition tasks are executed by pyramid cellular acceptors in a time which is proportional to the logarithm of the diameter of the input. They also introduced a bottom-up pyramid cellular acceptor, which is a restricted version of the pyramid cellular acceptor, and proposed some interesting open problems about bottom-up pyramid cellular acceptors. On the other hand, we think that the study of four-dimensional automata has been meaningful as the computational model of four-dimensional information processing such as computer animation, moving picture processing, and so forth. In this article, we investigate bottom-up pyramid cellular acceptors with four-dimensional layers, and show some of their accepting powers. © 2012 International Symposium on Artificial Life and Robotics (ISAROB).

Structure analysis is one of the most important issues in corporate management. Pyramid structure, as one of the well-known vertical structure, plays an important part in the corporate organization. Most structures of the traditional organizations such as functional structure and divisional structure are vertical. Recently, due to the development of Information Technology, a new horizontal structure, instead of the vertical one, has been drawn considerable attention. In this paper, we reviewed the efficient organization structure, and found that there are two efficient structures: vertical structure and horizontal structure, depending on the different abilities of each member in any organizations with the comprehensive evaluation measurement. The line structure of vertical organization is efficient when the ability of all members is small. While the ability of all members is large, the star structure of horizontal organization will be efficient. Therefore, this paper provides a theoretical perspective to prove the efficient organization structures and their required conditions. © 2010 ISAROB.

The comparative study of the computational powers of deterministic and nondeterministic computations is one of the central tasks of complexity theory. This paper investigates the computational power of nondetermin-istic computing devices with restricted nondeterminism. There are only few results measuring the computational power of restricted nondeterminism. In general, there are three possibilities to measure the amount of nondeter-minism in computation. In this paper, we consider the possibility to count the number of different nondeterministic computation paths on any input. In particular, we deal with seven-way four-dimensional finite automata with multiple input heads operating on four-dimensional input tapes.

A multi-marker automaton is a finite automaton which keeps marks as pebbles in the finite control, and cannot rewrite any input symbols but can make marks on its input with the restriction that only a bounded number of these marks can exist at any given time. An improvement of picture recognizability of the finite automaton is the reason why the multi-marker automaton was introduced. On the other hand, a multi-inkdot automaton is a conventional automaton capable of dropping an inkdot on a given input tape for a landmark, but unable to further pick it up. Due to the advances in many application areas such as moving image processing, computer animation, and so on, it has become increasingly apparent that the study of four-dimensional pattern processing has been of crucial importance. Thus, we think that the study of four-dimensional automata as a computational model of four-dimensional pattern processing has also been meaningful. This paper deals with marker versus inkdot over four-dimensional input tapes, and investigates some properties.

The recent advances in computer animation, motion image processing, robotics and so on prompted us to analyze computational complexity of four-dimensional pattern processing. Thus, the research of four-dimensional automata as a computational model of four-dimensional pattern processing has also been meaningful. From this viewpoint, we introduced a four-dimensional alternating Turing machine (4-ATM) operating in parallel. In this paper, we continue the investigations about 4-ATM's, deal with a four-dimensional synchronized alternating Turing machine (4-SATM), and investigate some properties of 4-SATM's which each sidelength of each input tape is equivalent. The main topics of this paper are: (1) hierarchies based on the number of processes of 4-SATM's, and (2) recognizability of connected pictures by 4-SATM's.

Synchronized alternating machine is an alternating machine with a special subset of internal states called synchronizing states. This paper introduces a four-dimensional synchronized alternating Turing machine (4-SATM), and investigates fundamental properties of 4-SATM's. The main topics of this paper are: (1) a relationship between the accepting powers of 4-SATM's and four-dimensional alternating Turing machines with small space bounds, (2) a relationship between the accepting powers of seven-way and eight-way 4-SATM's, (3) a relationship between the accepting powers of 4-SATM's and four-dimensional nondeterministic Turing machines. In this paper, we let each sidelength of each input tape of these automata be equivalent in order to increase the theoretical interest.

Informally, the parallel Turing machine (PTM) proposed by Wiedermann is a set of identical usual sequential Turing machines (STMs) cooperating on two common tapes: storage tape and input tape. Moreover, STMs which represent the individual processors of a parallel computer can multiply themselves in the course of computation. On the other hand, during the past 25 years or so, automata on a three-dimensional tape have been proposed as computational models of three-dimensional pattern processing, and several properties of such automata have been obtained. We proposed a three-dimensional parallel Turing machine (3-PTM), and dealt with a hardware-bounded 3-PTM whose inputs are restricted to cubic ones. We believe that this machine is useful in measuring the parallel computational complexity of three-dimensional images. It is conjectured that the three-dimensional pattern processing has its own difficulties not arising in two-dimensional case. One of these difficulties occurs in recognizing topological properties of three-dimensional patterns because the three-dimensional neighborhood is more complicated than two-dimensional case. Generally a property or relationship is topological only if it is preserved when an arbitrary "rubber-sheet" distortion is applied to the pictures. For example, adjacency and connectedness are topological; area, elongatedness, convexity, and straightness are not. In recent years, there have been many interesting papers on digital topological properties. For example, an interlocking component was defined as a new topological property in three-dimensional digital pictures, and it was proved that no one marker automaton can recognize interlocking components in a three-dimensional digital picture. The recent adurances in computer animation, motion image processing and so on prompted us to analyze computational complexity of multi-dimensional information processing to explicate the properties of four-dimensional automata, i.e., three-dimensional automata with the time axis. From this point of view, we first introduced four-dimensional alternating Turing machines 4-ATM's, and investigated leaf-size bounded computation for 4-ATM's in [4,6]. In this paper, we continue the investigations about 4-ATM's, and maily investigate leaf-size bounded computation of 4-ATM's. Basically, the 'leaf-size' is the minimum number of leaves of some accepting computation trees of alternating Turing machines. Leaf-size, in a sense, reflects the minimum number of processors that run in parallel in accepting a given input. ©ISAROB 2007.

Informally, a parallel Turing machine (PTM) proposed by Wiedermann is a set of identical usual sequential Turing machines (STM's) cooperating on two common tapes - storage tape and input tape. Moreover, STM's which represent the individual processors of the parallel computer can multiply themselves in the course of computation. On the other hand, during the past about twenty-five years, automata on a three-dimensional tape have been proposed as computational models of three-dimensional pattern processing and several properties of such automata have been obtained. In this paper, we propose a three-dimensional parallel Turing machine (3-PTM), and investigate its some properties. Especially, we deal with a hardware-bounded 3-PTM, whose inputs are restricted to cubic ones. We believe that this machine is useful in measuring the parallel computational complexity of three-dimensional images. ©ISAROB 2007.

It is conjectured that the three-dimensional pattern processing has its our difficulties not arising in two-dimensional case. One of these difficulties occurs in recognizing topological properties of three-dimensional patterns because the three-dimensional neighborhood is more complicated than two-dimensional case. Connections model is an economic network model introduced by Jackson and Wolinsky. This model is a typical example of complex networks. They showed that an efficient network did not always accord with a stable network under some limited conditions. Our purpose of this paper is to show that an efficient network do not always accord with a stable network under partially generalized conditions.

In this paper, we show that for any undirected graph with order n, the cover time and the mean hitting time for P (1/2) are bounded by O(n 2 log n) and O(n 2 ), respectively. Since the mean hitting time of a path graph of order n, for any transition matrix, is ω(n 2 ), P (1/2) is best possible with respect to the mean hitting time.

It is just amazing that both of the mean hitting time and the cover time of a random walk on a finite graph, in which the vertex visited next is selected from the adjacent vertices at random with the same probability, are bounded by O(n3) for any undirected graph with order n, despite of the lack of global topological information. Thus a natural guess is that a better transition matrix is designable if more topological information is available. For any undirected connected graph G = (V, E), let P(β)= (puv(β))u,v∈Vbe a transition matrix defined by (Equation Presented) where β is a real number, N(u) is the set of vertices adjacent to a vertex u, deg(u) = |N(u)|, and U(·, ·) is a potential function defined as U(u, v) - log (max {deg(u), deg(v)}) for it u ∈ V, v ∈ N(u). In this paper, we show that for any undirected graph with order n, the cover time and the mean hitting time with respect to P(1)are bounded by O(n2log n) and O(n2), respectively. Suppose that a distributed system is modeled by an undirected graph G = (V, E), where V and E, respectively, are the sets of processes and communication links. Israeli and Jalfon [6] proposed a simple self-stabilizing mutual exclusion algorithm: A token is circulated among the processes (i.e., vertices) and a process can access the critical section only when it holds the token. In order to guarantee equal access change to all processes, the token circulation is desired to be fair in the sense that all processes have the same probability of holding the token. However, the Israeli-Jalfon token circulation scheme does not meet the requirement. This paper proposes a new scheme for making it fair. We evaluate the average of the longest waiting times in terms of the cover time and show an O(deg(G)n2) upper bound on the cover time for our scheme, where n and deg(G) are the number of processes and the maximum degree of G, respectively. The same (tight) upper bound is known for the Israeli-Jalfon scheme.
