This paper presents a sensitivity analysis of paratransit network optimization for transportation planning in developing cities. The analysis is conducted based on a bi-level optimization model to decide the optimal frequencies, where upper level is to minimize the generalized cost of paratransit users and the operational cost for paratransit drivers. Several scenarios are assumed to represent the behavioral features specific to paratransit users and drivers, as follows: scenario 1 changing the scale and shape parameters in the Bureau of Public Road (BPR) function, scenario 2 changing the flexibility of stopping places and scenario 3 combining scenarios 1 and 2 in order to derive practically feasible optimization solutions of paratransit services. The paratransit network in an area located within 1.5 km radius from the central station in Bandung city is used as a case study network. It is found that the influence of updated BPR Function is imperative while changing the flexibility of stopping place might not be the best solutions.

Graphical Route Information Panels (GRIPs) have been commonly used on expressways in Japan to provide drivers with en-route traffic information. Although GRIPs have much advantage over VMS, too much information and too complex displays may prevent drivers from proper understanding of the provided information. To enhance the LOS of expressways, it is important to upgrade GRIPs and to understand drivers' response. This study therefore investigates the impact of displaying pictograms and moving symbols on GRIPs on drivers' comprehension and response to the information through an online survey. As a result, these findings are obtained; (i) pictograms and moving symbols are helpful for most drivers to understand the events information on GRIPs correctly; (ii) in terms of drivers' comprehensibility there is possibility to provide information of natural events (fog and tidal wave) by displaying pictograms or moving symbols on GRIPs; and (iii) showing pictograms or moving symbols and providing natural events information significantly influence drivers' route choice behavior.

This study proposes a passenger assignment model for a frequency-based transit network, which takes into account not only the expected travel time but also the reliability of travel time as passengers' path choice criteria. The uncertainty of travel time in this study is derived from the variation of waiting time due to the service frequency and the possibility of failing to board the first train by the congestion. The measure of reliability, as well as the distribution of travel time, is calculated by considering Poisson distributed headway of each vehicle. Passengers are assumed to choose the path of the minimum generalised cost, which is defined as the weighted value of the expected travel time and the measure of travel time reliability. The model is formulated as a fixed point problem which represents the user equilibrium condition. The efficiency of the proposed model is demonstrated with a simple hypothetical network.
