Antioxidative Potency of Chlorophyll a in Green Leafy Vegetables

Recent studies suggest that our daily diets have not only nutritional function but also anti oxidative ability. Especially, dietary plants are reported to contain variety of antioxidants such as tocopherol, ascorbic acid, carotenoids, flavonoids, and other polyphenols. Although we have reported antioxidative activity of marine algae [I], most customers frequently eat land plants such as vegetables and fruits rather than marine algae. In this study, we studied antioxidative activity of various vegetables, which commonly consumed in Japan, and examined for their antioxidative activities. In addition, the potent antioxidants observed in the green leafy vegetables were evaluated by using spinach leaf.

Introduction
Reversible complex formation of borate and phenylboronate ions with mono- and oligosaccharides in aqueous solution is well known. These interactions have been employed in separation and detection of compounds containing sugar molecules and synthesis of sugar-responsive materials. Equilibrium constants of the complex formation (Kass) between borate group and particular diols in the saccharide molecules vary from 6 to 2000 M-1 for different sugars, suggesting high selectivity of borate interaction with sugars. Recently, some efforts were made to synthesize water-soluble copolymers containing phenylboronic acid, and to study their properties from the viewpoint of application for sugar sensing and responsing materials and lectin-like materials. Interaction of thermoresponsive boronate-containing copolymers with some carbohydrates and polyols was recently studied by us in a comparative way: owing to hydrophilic properties of the associating molecules, their binding to the copolymer led to a shift of its phase transition temperature (Tp), which might be easily quantified [1, 2]. In this study, we investigated to analyze the interaction of thermo responsive boronate-containing copolymers with some carbohydrates using UV spectral measurement. -

Introduction
The nano materials have excellent properties that differ from that of bulk or macro scale. To utilize the nano materials over the long term, it is necessary to avoid the nano materials from the exposure to the environment. Therefore, coating technique of nano materials with retaining the nano-size and highly dispersed condition is need for the nanotechnology. The preparing method of nano materials which uses surfactant aggregate is popular. An anionic surfactant, di-2-ethylhexyl sodium sulfosuccinate (hereafter AOT) forms spherical reverse micelle in a nonpolar organic solvent. The reverse micelles repeat dispersion and coalescence at the very fast rate and exchange the contents of them. Using this property, it is possible to make nano-particles in the reverse micelles. Recently, polymers which show specific properties against the external irritation have attracted much attention. It is known that poly-N-isopropylacrylamide swells in water under the lower critical solution temperature (LCST = 305K), but it shrinks above LCST, because it changes from hydrophilic state to hydrophobic. By this phenomenon, poly-NIPAM has been studied by many researchers in the fields of extraction, adsorption and drug delivery system. However, poly-NIPAM is usually gelatinous, so that there is a little difficulty of handling. In this study, poly-NIPAM is synthesized in the AOT reverse micellar system and coating technology of nano particle using in-situ polymerization is investigated. -

Introduction
Immobilization of microorganisms is increasingly applied in biotechnological processes. Currently, the immobilized cells have been extensively used for the production of useful chemicals such as alcohols, amino acids, organic acids, antibiotics, or steroids, and for the degradation of wastewater pollutants. In the immobilization of microorganisms by the encapsulation technique, gel-like materials such as calcium alginate, K-carrageenan, and chitosan are widely used as immobilization matrices, because they have biocompatibility. However, regarding the application of these immobilized cells for long-term reactions, these matrices have a limited stability, in which problems such beads disruption and cells leakage are well-known. Recently, to overcome the problems, there are novel attempts to use synthetic polymers, which have a good mechanical and chemical strength, as immobilization matrices for microorganisms I , 2). In this study, we developed the poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) microcapsule with a single large core, and the immobilization of yeast cells into PMMA microcapsules was researched. In addition, the asymmetric reduction utilizing PMMA microcapsules immobilized· yeast cells was performed in an organic media. The model reaction was adopted as the asymmetric reduction of acetophenone to I-phenylethanol as shown in Fig.l. -

Introduction
Extraction technique of metal ions, organic acids and other chemicals in aqueous solution using microcapsules containing extractants as a core materials have been developed [1]. This technique have some advantages such as less amount of organic solvents, the easily treatment as the solid-state for extractants, and the high extraction ability against the ion-exchange resin. In this study, we prepared the microcapsules with millimeter size containing tri-n-octylamine as a core material by in situ polymerization using styrene and divinylbenzene as wall materials, and investigated the effects of preparation conditions on the structural characteristics of the microcapsules obtained. The extraction properties of organic acid into the microcapsules were also investigated. -

Introduction
In a spent electroless nickel-plating bath, nickel and various useful materials have been still contained in large amount. Many researches have investigated to separate and recover nickel from the spent electroless nickel-plating bath. Few researches, however, have studied the separation and recovery of phosphorous acid from the spent bath. In previous work, the extraction equilibrium of phosphorous acid with TOA in toluene have been expressed that TOA (B) consecutively reacts with an undissociated fonn of phosphorous acid (A') to fonn complexes which are A'B, A'2B2 and A'3B2[1]. In this study, the interfacial adsorption equilibria of the extraction complexes to the interface between the aqueous and the organic phases were investigated at 303K. The experimental results of interfacial tension using a single-drop volume method were interpreted by a Langmuir adsorption isotherm for each specie, B, A'B and A'2B2. -

Introduction: The utilization of microorganisms for the fermentative production of amino acids or antibiotics and material conversion using microorganism biocatalysts are used in the medical and food fields. However, there are still many unknown factors concerning the ability of the microorganisms, the utilization fields expand with the increase in the knowledge of microorganisms, and the possible development of future science and technology. The synthesis of an optically active chemical compound using the enzymatic recognition ability of microorganisms and the decomposition of pollutants (chlorinated organic compounds, aromatic compounds, metals, petroleum, dioxin, etc.) using various microorganisms have recently gained attention. Such microorganism applications are technologies that maximizes the useful material production and biocatalyst abilities of microorganisms [1].
In this study, we tried to microencapsulate the useful microorganisms. And, the microcapsule is applied to soil improvement as a soil conditioner. -

Core-shell microcapsule encapsulated repairing material was prepared by the combination of the solvent evaporation of o/w emulsion. Here, we employed dicyclopentadiene (DCPD) as a repairing material. In this study, we investigated in detail microcapsule diameter, thickness of capsule membrane, and DCPD contents influence on initial DCPD concentrations in the preparation condition.

A semi-continuous preparation system for polymer microspheres, which consists of a vibration emulsifier and five series reactors with vibration plates, was developed and was varified on continuous preparation of polystyrene-co-divinylbenzene microspheres by in situ polymerization. An OIW emulsion was prepared using the emulsifier and flowed gradually into the each reactor. The in situ polymerization was carried out in each reactor to form solid particles. The particles prepared in each reactor was taken out from the bottom of the reactor. The average diameter of the particles prepared decreased with increasing in the vibration frequencies of the emulsifier. The average diameter and the quantity of the particles were independent on the vibration frequencies of the vibration plates and on the number of the reactor. Continuous operation was successfully carried out and the sphere particles having uniform shape were continuously prepared for 10 cycles operation, which needed for 55 hr.

Microcapsules containing vitamin E of antioxidant was prepared by the solvent evaporation. In this preparation method, particle size of microcapsules containing vitamin E was about 10 f.lm and polydispersity was held. By adding microcapsules containing vitamin E to the unsaturated fatty acid, it was possible to suppress the auto-oxidation. Furthermore, it was confirmed that the antioxidant effect of the vitamin E microcapsules significantly increased in the coexistence with microcapsules containing vitamin C.

The extraction rate of phosphorous acid in aqueous solution by tri-n-octylamine in toluene was investigated in Lewis transfer cell and Vibro-mixer type extractor for various conditions. The experimental results were interpreted by the rate equation of (1.03, 0.96) and (2.23, 2.06) orders for the acid and the amine in Lewis cell and Vibro mixer extractor. The apparent rate constant in the extractor was enlarged by the vibration of mixing plates, and were determined as a function of frequencies of mixing plates. The mass transfer rate was found to facilitate as 105 folds of that in Lewis type transfer cell. The enlargement of mass transfer rate was caused of increasing in the interfacial area and the surface renewal rate by the formation and breaking of micro liquid particles by the vibration of mixed solution. The vibro-mixer extractor will be more useful the separation of materials having low reaction rate.

Introduction
Unsaturated lipids contained in the various plants and animals are easily oxidized under heat, photo irradiation or metal catalyst, and are firstly converted into lipid peroxides which are further frequently converted to polymers or various carbonyl compounds as the secondary products [1,2]. The compounds formed have negative effects for human health such as cause of cancer or symptom of old aging [3 ,4] . Hence, it is important for human life to elucidate the mechanism of oxidation and anti-oxidation of the lipids. ,B-Carotene and a-tocopherol have commonly known as an antioxidant of lipids. In previous papers, the kinetic analysis of the autoxidation of unsaturated lipids [5, 6] and effect of a-tocopherol on the oxidation were reported [6]. In this study, the effects of p.carotene on the autoxidation rate of linoleic acid were investigated from the oxygen consumption rate by the oxidation. -

微生物を高効率で包括固定化でき, かつ力プセル壁を通して物質の拡散性に優れたコア/シェル型の多孔性マイクロカプセルの開発を行った。使用した微生物は独立栄養性の脱窒細菌およびパン醇母である。これらのカプセル化微生物に対して.①脱窒細菌に関しては硝酸性窒素で汚染された水源のパイオレメディエーション, ②パン酵母に関しては非水環境中における不斉還元反応に関して検討を加えた。微生物の反応場としてのマイクロカプセルの可能性を紹介する。

焼酎もろみ中に含まれる微量香味成分の最適な分割採取を目的として、精留塔と還流弁を備えた精留ユニットを所定段、直列に設置し、蒸留釜に焼酎もろみを連続的に供給すると同時に釜液を抜き出して釜内のもろみ組成を一定に保つことにより一定組成の留出液が得られる多段定常蒸留装置を開発し、その蒸留特性を明らかにした。蒸留時間によらず、各段から一定濃度でエタノールおよび微量成分が留出され、精留ユニットの段数によって異なる組成の留出液が得られた。揮発性の高いエタノール、酢酸エチルおよび低沸点アルコール類は前段側の精留ユニットより高濃度で留出し、揮発性の低いß–フェネチルアルコールは後段側の精留ユニットより留出された。エタノールおよび微量成分の留出濃度は、焼酎もろみの供給速度、蒸留釜内での滞留時間、還流比およぴ留出段数により制御することができ、留出液中の濃度は蒸留時間内で一定に保てることが分かった。
