Experimental and analytical investigations are performed for OneMax problem using Wright-Fisher model. This study investigates the distribution of the first order schema frequency in the evolution process of Genetic Algorithm (GA). Effects of mutation in GA are analyzed for the standard mutation and asymmetric mutation models. If a population is in linkage equilibrium, it can be shown that OneMax problem is equivalent to the asymmetric mutation model. Thus, we can apply theoretical results obtained in the asymmetric mutation model to OneMax problem and investigate the convergence time of GA calculation within the framework of Wright-Fisher model. © 2012 ISAROB.

Hemophilia B is a genetic disease resulting from deficiency of factor IX. The database of mutations causing hemophilia B has been developed by the world wide collaboration. Most common mutations are amino acid changing substitutions, which we call missense mutations, and factor IX activity is closely related to the type and position of a substitution. In this study, we examined the relation between clotting level of factor IX and the type of a missense mutation by using Support Vector Machine (SVM). As parameters, we used four physical-chemical parameters of amino acids and a special flag variable representing amino acid cysteine. As a result, EGF(1st) and EGF(2nd) have the relationship in the prediction of serious or slight illness in hemophilia B. Cysteine substitution parameters influence the prediction in Activation region. © 2012 Springer-Verlag.

Most analysis methods of base sequences are based on the idea of pattern matching, but feature patterns known until today are supposedly a part of all the patterns hidden in base sequences. We develop a novel analyzing method based on disorder of base sequences, for example variance of data, 1/f fluctuation, information entropy and self-information. We try to classify species based on self-information of base sequences. Relations between species are visualized by self-organizing map (SOM). It is probable that neighboring regions of the SOM corresponds to near species. We compare neighboring regions of the SOM with neighboring branches of an evolutionary tree produced by the Clustal-W system. © 2011 ISAROB.

There are many works to solve NP-complete problems by using Genetic Algorithms(GAs). The satisfiability (SAT) problem is the first proposed NP-complete problem, and plays a central role in computer science. However, the application of GAs to SAT problems may require the high performance computing, and it is necessary to obtain runtime properties of the problem. To solve this problem, we investigated the distribution of the first hitting time T for 3-SAT problems within the framework of Markov chain model. We define T as the first time of finding a solution instance in a population. We also explored the success probability S, first hitting time T̃ in the stationary distribution and survival time a in the GA on 3-SAT problem. We focused on the relations between these quantities, and got the result of T̃ = a/S. Furthermore, we give the functional form for the distributions of T and T̃, and compared them with numerical experiments. © 2011 IEEE.

The investigation of new food constituents for purposes of disease prevention or health promotion is an area of increasing interest in food science. This paper proposes a new system that allows for simultaneous estimation of the multiple health-promoting effects of food constituents using informatics. The model utilizes expression data of intracellular marker proteins as descriptors that reply to stimulation of a constituent. To estimate three health-promoting effects, namely, cancer cell growth suppression activity, antiviral activity, and antioxidant stress activity, each model was constructed using expression data of marker proteins as input data and health-promoting effects as the output value. When prediction performances of three types of mathematical models constructed by simple, multiple regressions, or artificial neural network (ANN), were compared, the most adequate model was the one constructed using an ANN. There were no statistically significant differences between the actual data and estimated values calculated by the ANN models. This system was able to simultaneously estimate health-promoting effects with reasonable precision from the same expression data of marker proteins. This novel system should prove to be an interesting platform for evaluation of the health-promoting effects of food. © 2011 American Chemical Society.
