The purpose of this study was to discuss the practical usefulness of the discrimination of indica and japonica cultivar groups based on the morphology of silica bodies from motor cells in rice (Oryza saliva L.). The effects of nitrogen levels on the morphology of silica bodies from the flag leaf were investigated. Two indica varieties, "T-153" and "T-160" and a japonica variety, "T-708" were used and cultivated in pot scale (l/5000a). Nitrogen treatment was divided into three levels of 20 gm-2, 10gm-2, and 5 gm-2 and they were applied when the rice plants had 1.5-2.0 in remaining plant age in number of leaves (corresponding to 15 to 20 days before heading). The result showed little effect of nitrogen level on the morphology of silica bodies. No effect of nitrogen level was observed on the discrimination of indica and japonica cultivar groups based on the morphological characters of silica bodies, although the discriminating scores were slightly changed.

イネにおける機動細胞珪酸体形状によるインディカ型とジャポニカ型品種群判別の実用性を検討するため, インディカ品種T-153とT-160およびジャポニカ品種T-708を用い, 1/5000aワグネルポット栽培で窒素(N)20gm^<-2>, 10gm^<-2>, 5gm^<-2>の3処理区を設定し, 珪酸体形状に与える窒素施用量の影響を調べた. その結果, 窒素施用量が珪酸体形状に及ぼす影響は小さいことが分かった. また, 判別得点に多少の影響がみられるものの, インディカ・ジャポニカ品種群判別には影響がないことが明らかになった.

イネの葉の機動細胞にみられる珪酸体の形状について,F_2世代の分析およびダイアレル分析を行い,その遺伝特性を調べた.珪酸体の縦長,横長,側長および形状係数におけるF.世代の分布は、いずれも両親の値の分布範囲を超える連続的な分離を示した.この結果がら,珪酸体の形状は,複数の遺伝子に支配される量的形質であると推測された.また,ダイアレル分析の結果から,珪酸体の4形質の遺伝様式は,いずれも相加効果および優性効果のみからなる単純な遺伝モデルに適合し,これらの形質は,比較的単純な遺伝システムに支配されているものと推定された、遺伝率を推定した結果,4形質の広義の遺伝率は,0.43〜O.73の幅を示した.ダイアレル分析による狭義の遺伝率は,O.29〜O.54であった.イネにおける機動細胞珪酸体の形状は,栽培環境による影響を多少とも受け得ると判断される.

Genetic analysis of the morphology of silica bodies from motor cells in rice (Oryza sativa L.) was conducted by examining an F 2 population and a set of 3 x 5 NC II diallel crosses. Segregation for the four morphological characters-vertical length, horizontal length, lateral length and shape coefficient (b/a)- of silica bodies in the F 2 population showed a countinous and a wide distribution exceeding the ranges of the two parents (Fig. 2), suggesting that the morphological characters of silica bodies were quantitative and controlled by several genes. In the NC II diallel analysis, the heterogeneity of W'r+1/2Vr between arrays was not significant for all the morphological characters but b/a, and the heterogeneity of W'r-1/2Vr was not observed for all the characters tested (Table 4). The regression coefficients of W'r on Vr were nearly 0.5 but significantly different from zero (Table 5), indicating that the shape of the silica bodies was controlled by an additive-dominance genetic system. The heritabilities in a broad sense for the four characters were in the range of 0.43-0.73 and those in a narrow sense in the range of 0.29-0.54 (Table 6).
