This study was conducted to compare growth mechanics between logistic functions and basic growth functions. The results obtained were as follows. Differential equation for basic growth function showed that the square of growth rate was described using the product of weight and growth acceleration. This form was similar to Newton's law of motion where differential of momentum is described using the product of mass of an object and acceleration. However, differential equation for logistic function took a form that was more complex, due to the existence of additional function, than that for basic growth function. Therefore, only the product of weight and growth acceleration was not sufficient to describe the square of growth rate in the differential equation for logistic function. This insufficiency was compensated by the additional function. This is one of the reasons why logistic functions are more complex than basic growth functions showing increases only. It was suggested from the present study that growth mechanics of logistic functions was more complex than that of basic growth functions.

This study was conducted to avoid negative weight problem hypothetically by applying sign reversal of relative growth rate, space inversion and time reversal to basic growth functions with negative weight. The negative weight occurred when ± signs are given to each of three terms including weight when the square root was taken to solve a differential equation for basic growth mechanics. The positive weight was the animal body weight and the negative weight was interpreted as the feed whose absolute value was expressed in terms of the animal body weight. The results obtained were as follows. Space inversion suggested that the feed was produced at the external space of the animal body. Time reversal suggested that the feed was produced before fed to the animal. The product of sign reversal of RGR and space inversion or time reversal gave positive weight to the feed. These mathematical operations were summarized by the transformation of coordinates from (r, x, y, z, t, -W o) to (-r, -x, -y, -z, -t, W o). Thus, the animal ate the feed with positive weight. It was suggested from the present study that the negative weight problem in basic growth functions was hypothetically avoided by applying sign reversal, space inversion and time reversal.

This study was conducted to suggest quasi-four-dimensional basic growth mechanics for the ruminant animal and the forage plant by introducing three-dimensional (3-D) space. Suggested quasi-four-dimensions were composed of width, length from front to back and height of the body frame for 3-D space, and one-dimensional time with which the body frame was formed. The results obtained were as follows. (1) A group of expressions were suggested for weight increase and 3-D body frame formation with the passage of time. (2) A group of expressions were suggested for weight increase with time and 3-D body frame formation with weight increase. (3) A group of expressions were suggested for weight increase based on time and 3-D space, where time and space were treated equally to form weight-space-time relationships. (4) Quasifour-dimensional growth mechanics with feed intake suggested the ruminant animal growth analysis and that with leaf area suggested the forage plant growth analysis. It was suggested that introducing 3-D space with an equal treatment of space and time gave hypothetic quasi-four-dimensional growth mechanics for the ruminant animal and the forage plant.

The present study was designed to investigate some solutions to a simple differential equation associated with growth mechanics and whether they were related under some concept. The results obtained were as follows. Some solutions to the simple differential equation for ruminant agriculture were: (1) a function for the growth of a forage plant or a ruminant animal, (2) a function for the light attenuation in forage plant canopy, (3) a function for the degradable residue of forage protein in the rumen, (4) a function suggesting field-forage-ruminant relationships through matter circulation, (5) a function for spirals topologically similar to micro- and macro-structures of forages or ruminants. Other solutions in the field of physics that might be related to ruminant agriculture through the energy issue were: (6) a function for the mass-energy relation applying to a forage plant or a ruminant animal, (7) a function for the wave including energy that was a solution to partial differential equations replacing but corresponding to the ordinary differential equation, (8) a function for the exponential expansion of the space with almost constant density of energy. It was suggested that some solutions to a simple differential equation associated with growth mechanics ranged from some aspects of ruminant agriculture to energy issues of physics, provided that they were described using exponential functions with base e.

The present study was designed to give new equations by applying growth force and leaf-light complex to production and digestion analyses of forages. The results obtained were as follows. The traditional equation for forage AGR (absolute growth rate) given by the product of NAR (net assimilation rate) and LAI (leaf area index) was modified as follows: (1) AGR was replaced by growth force that was given by the product of weight and growth acceleration, (2) LAI was replaced by MLA (mean leaf area weighted with relative light intensity) suggesting a kind of leaf-light complex. Inserting growth force and MLA into the traditional description of AGR led to a new equation, where growth process of forages was analyzed more deeply. The application of growth force to indigestible materials in forages gave a new equation that analyzed the indigestibility increase with forage growth more deeply compared with the former equation. It was suggested that growth force and leaf-light complex were useful tools in the production and digestion analyses of forages.

This study was conducted to analyze growth phenomena by introducing mechanical viewpoints into basic growth analysis. Relating weight (W), absolute growth rate (AGR) and growth acceleration (GA) suggested that (AGR) 2, which was described as the product of W and GA, looked like force involved in the growth of an animal or a plant. This might be due to the resemblance to the second law of Newton's three laws of motion, where the product of mass and acceleration is related with force to an object. If GA=0, then AGR=0. This caused the weight to stop changes and to keep the constant value with the passage of time, showing a resemblance to the law of inertia that is the first one of three laws of motion. AGR was obtained by extracting the square root of W·GA, taking both positive and negative values. Since AGR played the leading part in growth mechanics, W took both positive and negative values. The positive W was the weight of an animal or a plant, and in terms of it the negative W was assumed to be environmental substances from which an animal or a plant was constructed. If the positive AGR was the action of an animal or a plant on the environment, then the negative AGR was the reaction taken by the environment. The sum of positive AGR and negative AGR was equal to zero. This might show a resemblance to the law of action and reaction, the third one of three laws of motion. There were three aspects of growth mechanics that might be compared with Newton's three laws of motion.
