This paper proposes a new method for evaluating brain damage using heart beat information. In previous research, it becomes possible to judge the brain damage by comparing the heart beat interval data before and after hypoxia. In this study, we used a newborn rat model of the HIE (Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy), and investigated whether there is any significant relationship between brain damage and heart beat interval information during hypoxic period without using a complex estimator and classifier. This paper used the correlation coefficient and the inclination calculated by the relationship between the coefficient variation and the local variation obtained from heart beat interval data as elements of the estimation of the brain damage. We determined the brain damage using the information of the result classified by the fuzzy clustering method of the correlation coefficient and inclination. From the experimental results, our proposed method indicates that the estimate of the presence or absence of the brain damage is possible without using a complex classifier and estimator.

In this letter, we describe a low power current to time converter for wireless sensor networks. The proposed circuit has some advantages of high linearity and wide measurement range. From the evaluation using HSPICE with 0.18µm CMOS device parameters, the output differential error for the input current variation is approximately 0.1µs/nA under the condition that the current is varied from 100nA to 500nA. The idle power consumption is approximately zero.

This research is aim to monitor the possibility of hypoxic-ischemic (abbr. HI) brain damage in newborn rats by studying and determining the newborns' heart rate/ R-R interval in turn to minimize the possibility of HI brain damage for human newborns during births. This research is based on the 20 newborn rats' heart rate/ R-R interval information during hypoxic insult. The data will be changed to the parameters Local Variation (Lv), Coefficient Variation (Cv), correlation coefficient (R 2 ), and then be analyzed using Multiple Linear Regression Analysis and Successive Multiple Linear Regression Analysis. This paper shows that it will be possible to predict the future development of HI brain damage in human fetus by using of heart rate/ R-R interval information. © 2011 Springer-Verlag.
