We report measurements of cross sections and analyzing powers for nucleon-knockout (pnp) reactions of H2, Li6, and C12 at 296 MeV using the RCNP NPOL3 neutron detector and large acceptance spectrometer. The 1s and 1p knockout reactions were successfully separated with a separation-energy resolution of approximately 6 MeV. The resulting data were compared with plane-wave and distorted-wave impulse approximation calculations employing the nucleon-nucleon t matrix in free space. No significant differences were identified in the case of the present analyzing power data, in contrast to the significant reductions observed in (p2p) values. The conventional Pauli blocking and nuclear binding effects with the g matrix and the relativistic effect of nucleon mass reduction in the nuclei are also discussed.

© Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd. Excited states in 12 C nuclei play a very important role in the nucleosynthesis in the universe. 12 C nuclei are synthesized by the triple α reaction. Normally the triple α process proceeds via the state (Hoyle states) at E x = 7.65 MeV in 12 C. However, at high temperature T > 10 9 , the highly excited 3α resonance states such as the state at E x = 9.64 MeV might play a part of the triple α reaction. Unfortunately, the γ-decay probability of the state has not been determined, therefore we planned to measure 1 H( 12 C, 12 Cp) reaction without measuring γ-rays. The test experiment using the solid hydrogen target and GAGG(Gd 3 Al 2 Ga 3 O 12 ) was recently carried out at the cyclotron facility in RCNP. The results of the test experiment are reported in this paper.

The low-lying energy levels of proton-rich Cu56 have been extracted using in-beam γ-ray spectroscopy with the state-of-the-art γ-ray tracking array GRETINA in conjunction with the S800 spectrograph at the National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory at Michigan State University. Excited states in Cu56 serve as resonances in the Ni55(p,γ)Cu56 reaction, which is a part of the rp process in type-I x-ray bursts. To resolve existing ambiguities in the reaction Q value, a more localized isobaric multiplet mass equation (IMME) fit is used, resulting in Q=639±82 keV. We derive the first experimentally constrained thermonuclear reaction rate for Ni55(p,γ)Cu56. We find that, with this new rate, the rp process may bypass the Ni56 waiting point via the Ni55(p,γ) reaction for typical x-ray burst conditions with a branching of up to ∼40%. We also identify additional nuclear physics uncertainties that need to be addressed before drawing final conclusions about the rp-process reaction flow in the Ni56 region.

© 2017, Springer-Verlag Wien. We have measured a complete set of deuteron analyzing powers in deuteron–proton elastic scattering at 190, 250, and 294 MeV/nucleon. The obtained data are compared with the Faddeev calculations based on the modern nucleon–nucleon forces together with the Tucson-Melbourne’99, and UrbanaIX three nucleon forces. The data are also presented with the calculations based on the N4LO NN potentials of the chiral effective field theory.

© The Author(s) 2017. Spallation reactions for the long-lived fission product 107Pd have been studied for the purpose of nuclear waste transmutation. The cross sections on the proton- and deuteron-induced spallation were obtained at 196 and 118 MeV/nucleon in inverse kinematics at the RIKEN Radioactive Isotope Beam Factory. Both the target and energy dependences of cross sections have been investigated systematically. It was found that the proton-induced cross sections at 196 MeV/nucleon are close to those for deuteron obtained at 118 MeV/nucleon for the light-mass products. The experimental data are compared with the SPACS semi-empirical parameterization and the PHITS calculations including both the intranuclear cascade and evaporation processes. Our data give a design goal of proton/deuteron flux for the transmutation of 107 Pd using the spallation reaction. In addition, it is found that the spallation reaction at 118 MeV/nucleon may have an advantage over the 107 Pd transmutation because of the low production of other long-lived radioactive isotopes.

© The Author(s) 2017. Spallation reactions for the long-lived fission product93Zr have been studied in order to provide basic data necessary for nuclear waste transmutation. Isotopic-production cross sections via proton- and deuteron-induced spallation reactions on93Zr at 105 MeV/nucleon were measured in inverse kinematics at the RIKEN Radioactive Isotope Beam Factory. Remarkable jumps in isotopic production originating from the neutron magic number N = 50 were observed in Zr and Y isotopes. The experimental results were compared to the PHITS calculations considering both the intranuclear cascade and evaporation processes, and the calculations greatly overestimated the measured production yield, corresponding to few-nucleon-removal reactions. The present data suggest that the spallation reaction is a potential candidate for the treatment of93Zr in spent nuclear fuel.

© 2017 The Authors. Published by Elsevier Ltd. Spallation reaction study has been performed for the long-lived fission products137Cs,90Sr and107Pd. Isotopic cross sections on proton and deuteron were obtained by using the inverse kinematics technique at the RIKEN Radioactive Isotope Beam Factory. It was found that the deuteron-induced cross sections are larger than the proton-induced ones for the light-mass products. The experimental data were compared with the SPACS semi-empirical parameterization and a theoretical calculation including both the intra-nuclear cascade and evaporation models by the PHITS transport code. It was found that the spallation reaction could be a promising mechanism for the transmutation of137Cs and90Sr due to the large total cross section.

我々は大阪大学核物理研究センター(RCNP) で、400 MeV のアルファ粒子を入射ビームとして西実験室にある磁気分析器大雷電(Grand Raiden) を用いて^13^Cのアルファ非弾性散乱の断面積測定を行い、^13^Cにおけるクラスター状態の探索を行った。^13^Cには、^12^Cの0_2_^+^状態に中性子を付加した3α+n配位をもつクラスター状態が発現すると期待される。これらの状態は、^12^Cの3αクラスター状態と同様に強い単極子遷移によって励起されると期待されるため、本研究では、^13^Cの単極子遷移強度分布を測定した。本講演ではその解析結果について報告する。

© 2016 The Authors. We have studied spallation reactions for the fission products 137 Cs and 90 Sr for the purpose of nuclear waste transmutation. The spallation cross sections on the proton and deuteron were obtained in inverse kinematics for the first time using secondary beams of 137 Cs and 90 Sr at 185 MeV/nucleon at the RIKEN Radioactive Isotope Beam Factory. The target dependence has been investigated systematically, and the cross-section differences between the proton and deuteron are found to be larger for lighter spallation products. The experimental data are compared with the PHITS calculation, which includes cascade and evaporation processes. Our results suggest that both proton- and deuteron-induced spallation reactions are promising mechanisms for the transmutation of radioactive fission products.

© 2016 American Physical Society. A candidate resonant tetraneutron state is found in the missing-mass spectrum obtained in the double-charge-exchange reaction He4(He8,Be8) at 186 MeV/u. The energy of the state is 0.83±0.65(stat)±1.25(syst) MeV above the threshold of four-neutron decay with a significance level of 4.9σ. Utilizing the large positive Q value of the (He8,Be8) reaction, an almost recoilless condition of the four-neutron system was achieved so as to obtain a weakly interacting four-neutron system efficiently.

53MeV <sup>93</sup>Nb(p,d)反応を用いた<sup>92</sup>Nbの励起エネルギー測定

大阪大学RCNPで、^93^Nb標的に53.3MeV陽子ビームを照射し、弾性散乱と(p,d)反応を測定する実験を行った。(p,d)反応測定でえられた運動量スペクトルから9〜11MeV付近の励起エネルギースペクトルを導出し、8つのピークエネルギーを得た。DWBA計算プログラムDWACK4を用いて、弾性散乱の微分散乱断面積から^93^Nb-陽子間の光学ポテンシャルを求め、(p,d)反応で得られた各励起エネルギーについてJ^π^を算出する。この結果について報告する。

Data on the vector analyzing power A y and the tensor analyzing powers A yy , A xx , and A xz in the reaction d → d → 3 H p at the deuteron energy of 200 MeV are presented over a full angular range in the c.m. frame. The signs of the tensor analyzing powers for forward and backward scattering are found to be sensitive to the D/S wave ratio in 3 H and in the deuteron. High-precision experimental data are compared with the results of theoretical calculations performed on the basis of the multiple-scatteringmodel by using standard wave functions for the three-nucleon bound states and for the deuteron.

By using para-hydrogen and a mechanical press made of neodymium magnets, we have succeeded in making a 1-mm-thick and 30-mm-diameter solid hydrogen target (SHT), and have measured elastic scattering of protons with radioactive ion beams at 300 MeV/u. We also succeeded in making not only a 0.5-mm-thick and 10-mm-diameter SHT but also a 2-mm-thick and 30-mm-diameter SHT to study excited-state properties of nuclei via (p,p′) reactions, and quasi-free (p,pα) reactions at intermediate energies. The ortho–para converter and the simple mechanical press show possibilities for making SHTs which have various radii and thicknesses.

Differential cross sections of isoscalar and isovector spin-M1 (0+→1+) transitions are measured using high-energy-resolution proton inelastic scattering at Ep=295MeV on Mg24, Si28, S32, and Ar36 at 0°-14°. The squared spin-M1 nuclear transition matrix elements are deduced from the measured differential cross sections by applying empirically determined unit cross sections based on the assumption of isospin symmetry. The ratios of the squared nuclear matrix elements accumulated up to Ex=16MeV compared to a shell-model prediction are 1.01(9) for isoscalar and 0.61(6) for isovector spin-M1 transitions, respectively. Thus, no quenching is observed for isoscalar spin-M1 transitions, while the matrix elements for isovector spin-M1 transitions are quenched by an amount comparable with the analogous Gamow-Teller transitions on those target nuclei.
